Happy Friday!
Welcome back to HOW TO // AI! We're one week out from launch day, and I'm equal parts excited and terrified to finally put this book in your hands.
Before we get to the countdown, I want to actually teach you something, because that's what we do here. So this week I'm pulling one of the most useful techniques straight out of the book and handing it to you, free, whether or not you ever buy a copy.
Here's what's in today's issue:
🧠 The Two-Word Fix for Generic AI Answers
📅 One Week to Launch: Here's the Plan
🎁 The Free 50-Prompt Library (a Taste of the Book)
Let's get into it!
🧠 The two-word fix for generic AI answers
One of the ideas in Amplified that people respond to most is also one of the simplest. When AI gives you a bland, generic answer, the problem usually isn't the AI. It's that you asked it to answer as nobody in particular.
The fix is to give it a role. Two words, "act as," changes everything.
Watch the difference. Ask "how do I make this email better?" and you get textbook advice. Ask "act as a skeptical customer reading this email for the first time. Where do you lose interest, and why?" and you get specific, useful feedback you can actually act on.
The role focuses the model. It stops being an average of everything on the internet and starts thinking from one clear point of view. A few of my favorites:
Act as an editor who cares about clarity over cleverness. Cut anything that doesn't earn its place.
Act as a hiring manager skimming this resume for six seconds. What do you notice, what do you miss?
Act as a beginnerwho has never heard of this. Explain it back to me so I can find the gaps.
Try it on your next prompt. Same question, plus a role, and watch the quality jump.
This is one small move from a whole chapter on prompting in the book. If you want fifty more like it, keep reading.
📅 One week to launch

Amplified: The Proven Path From AI Tools to Peak Productivity launches Thursday, July 17th. Here's exactly how the next week plays out, so you know what to expect:
Now: The Kindle edition is available to pre-order at the launch price of $4.99. Pre-order and it lands on your device automatically on launch day. After launch week the price goes to $9.99, so this is the lowest it will be.
Wednesday, July 16th: Early access. Anyone who's raised their hand gets the chance to grab it before the general announcement, plus first shot at the limited signed copies.
Thursday, July 17th: Launch day. Kindle and paperback go live, with the audiobook coming to Audible soon after.
If you already know you want it, pre-ordering now is the easiest way in, and it locks in the lowest price:
Outside the US? Search "Amplified David Davis" in your local Amazon store to find it there.
Prefer the print book, signed copies, or the audiobook? Those aren't on pre-order, but tap below and you'll be first in line when they're ready:
Want the print or audiobook editions first?
(One tap, no forms.)
🎁 Want more before launch?
The book's entire appendix is a library of 50 copy-paste prompts, the "act as" trick above is just the beginning, and it's online for free, organized by chapter.
If you're reading this in your inbox, you can open it with no email required:
Consider it a working preview. The prompts are yours to keep. The book is where I explain how and when to use each one.
Know someone who'd want the book too? Send them the waitlist.
💡 When AI gives you a generic answer, the fix usually isn't a better tool. It's giving it a role.
🤔 Got Questions?
Have a question about the book, or want to tell me how the "act as" trick worked for you? Just hit reply. I read every email.
One week to go. Thank you for being here for it.
